Rider & Driver Safety

Last updated: 9 August 2026

Safety is central to how eTaxi operates in Kenya. This page explains the safeguards built into the platform and what we expect from riders and drivers to keep every trip safe.

1. Verified drivers

Every driver on eTaxi passes identity verification, including a live selfie check, before they can accept trips. We also require valid driving licences, vehicle registration, insurance, and PSV/TLB documentation where applicable under Kenyan law.

2. Before you ride

3. During the trip

4. In an emergency

Every trip has an in-app SOS button. Tapping it alerts our safety team in real time with your live location and trip details, and lets you flag whether you need police, an ambulance, or other help.

If you are in immediate danger, contact the Kenya Police on 999 or 112 first. After you are safe, report the incident to eTaxi so we can investigate and take action on the account involved.

The in-app SOS button shares your live location, trip details, and account information with our safety team the moment it is triggered, so we can respond quickly and coordinate with emergency services where needed.

5. Ratings and accountability

Riders and drivers rate each other after every trip. Accounts with a pattern of low ratings, safety complaints, or policy violations are reviewed and may be suspended or deactivated. We investigate reports of unsafe driving, harassment, discrimination, or fraud.

6. For drivers

7. Data used for safety

We use trip GPS data, driver and rider verification records, and ratings/reports to investigate incidents and improve safety on the platform. This data is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.

8. Report a safety concern

To report an incident or safety concern, email hello@etaxi.co.ke or reach us via the contact details on our Contact page. For anything urgent or life-threatening, always call 999/112 first.
